COVID-19 air test analysis
ASSESSMENT OF THE PRESENCE OF COVID-19 IN THE AIR AND ON SURFACES
For several weeks now, the world has been dealing with COVID-19, a respiratory illness caused by a virus that is transmitted from person to person. The main route of infection is through the transmission of small droplets from an infected person when they cough or sneeze. Individuals must be within two (2) meters of distance. It is also possible that a person can contract COVID-19 by touching their mouth, nose or eyes after contact with surfaces or objects that are contaminated. This route of transmission may not be the most direct route of infection, but it is still a risk factor.
Recent studies suggest that the SARS-CoV-2 virus can remain alive and infectious on surfaces for hours or even days depending on the type of surface. Frequent surface cleaning and disinfection is recommended to prevent the spread of the virus.
Recently, the presence or absence of viral genetic material in the air can now be tested. A new molecular test has been designed and can be used to demonstrate the effectiveness of cleaning protocols in an indoor environment. It consists of an RT-qPCR test that precisely targets SARS-CoV-2 RNA.
The samples are taken using a sampling matrix and a pump that sucks 1000 liters of air (1 cubic meter) in 30 minutes and the results will indicate the presence of RNA from SARS-CoV- 2. A quantitative result will be able to confirm with certainty that the sampling area contained particles of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
In addition, the presence or absence of viral genetic material on surfaces can also be tested to complete your sampling. The latter consists of the extraction of virus RNA found on surfaces in order to detect the E gene belonging to SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). These analysis procedures comply with ISO 15216. The samples are taken using a swab and the results will tell you if there is presence or absence of a gene from the COVID-19 viral envelope. . A "present" or "absence" result of the gene will allow you to confirm with certainty that the sample area contained particles of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
With the current global situation, rest assured that our employees adhere to security protocols. Personal protective equipment is systematically used at each visit.
These samples must be taken from Monday to Wednesday in order to respect the cold chains for sample transfers.
